It’s outrageous - previous approvals have ignored hundreds of independent studies and relied on one single study - by the industry - to say it's safe! But finally, the EU Commission is considering a ban. A decision is imminent - if the EU bans chlorpyrifos, it will send ripple effects across the globe and we’re up against some serious lobby-power from the pesticide giants. We have a unique chance to get this poison off our fields -- the EU Food Safety Authority said chlorpyrifos does not meet the approval criteria and the European Commission is recommending a ban. In the US, California JUST banned chlorpyrifos, following in Hawaii and New York. A court ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to ban the poison! After Bolsonaro became president, Brazil has seen a wave of new authorisations of pesticides - many of them so toxic that they are banned in the countries where they are produced. Dow, the main producer of chlorpyrifos has spent millions to lobby lawmakers - but with the science and people power on our side, we can win against their deep-pockets and turn the tide globally.
