 | A quick trip to London or Paris? The super-rich are currently flying around Europe in their private jets at alarming rates. So while the richest 1% recklessly blows tons of pollutants into the air, we, the 99%, are trying to save on emissions?! But now France is calling for severe restrictions on private jets -- and other EU countries are on board. On June 1, transport ministers will meet in Luxembourg. Let's use this momentum to demand an EU-wide ban: | |

Dear friends, | The richest of the rich are currently jetting around Europe in their luxurious private jets at alarming rates. Whether it´s to a quick business meeting in Berlin or London or off to the Côte d'Azur for the weekend. All in the face of record-breaking heat waves, forest fires and the worst drought in 500 years!
The number of private jets sold is at an all-time high. And this decadence has a devastating impact on the climate: half of the world's flight emissions are caused by only 1% of the population! The private jet route between London and Paris is particularly popular -- despite the fact that a train runs several times a day, with a travel time of less than 2.5 hours!
Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport has announced a ban on private jets. And the French government -- with the support of other EU states -- is already pushing for severe restrictions on private jets in the EU. Transport ministers are meeting Luxembourg soon: let's urge them to fight for a ban on private jets. If we reach 500,000 signatures, we will deliver our voices directly at the upcoming meeting on June 1. |

| Why should the 99% cut emissions when the 1% continue to recklessly blow tons of pollutants into the air?! Banning private jets would help bring us closer to our climate goals and send a powerful signal for social justice.
Poorer communities and people living in the global south bear the brunt of the climate crisis, although they contribute the least to it! But they have to watch as the super-rich emit more pollutants in one year from their private flights alone than over 3.3 million people in Africa put together.
Let us come together and raise our voices to call for the ban on private jets, and Avaaz will deliver our voices directly to the key decision-makers. | | We are giving our all to create a future world most people everywhere want. Together, we have challenged big pharma, stood up to Monsanto and championed the needs of the people against the interests of the super-rich. Now let's raise our voices together to take a meaningful step forward -- for the climate and for the 99%.
With hope and determination,
Tabea, Carmen, Muriel, Barbara and the Avaaz Team | | |
