ENTERTAINMENT

ENTERTAINMENT

Written by Konstantinos Konstantinidis of Amphiktyon

It is Friday, tomorrow is the weekend, a time of short holiday precious for what we call Entertainment, that is, "soul education", but at least we enjoy a little rest from the weekly grind that beats us in a collapsing society. This does not concern us pensioners who have a day off and boredom every day and often lose track of the date. The right to entertainment is an ancient institution and has been recognized by society for rest, joy, travel, sports, religious ceremonies, contemplation, etc. There was a time when, as a young officer in the early 1950s, we would enter the camp at night and leave at night, every day, with the exception of Sunday afternoon. Then I was very concerned: How long will this thankless and unliveable life continue? Civilized people absolutely respect entertainment. Particularly useful when work has become a huge wave that is going to exhaust you, then entertainment is necessary, to stimulate our endurance. To strengthen the feeling of fullness. Our resistance should not bend and the wave should not cover us. Then the time and space of work are stopped, colorless, inert and icy, especially when it is accompanied by oppressive violence. Monotony and lack of leisure are enemies of the soul. Then leisure becomes a balm for the soul and entertainment an elixir of renewal. In one of his poems Cavafy  wote:

“One monotonous day Another monotonous, unchanging day follows The same things will happen They will become old again, The same moments find us and leave us A month passes and brings another month Those things that come are easily guessed They are yesterday’s, those boring ones And tomorrow becomes like tomorrow no longer

Only in international politics now Trump is stirring up the waters and everyone is looking for the rhythm to find and guard themselves. Only Europe is dancing with another purpose and the scoundrels are looking for war. .Everything around us is boiling Only our incompetent politicians spend their lives re-drawing the Tempi when they do not look at neighboring Turkey, which is reaching the top. We are bored by the repetition of the same events and tasks, the routine of the times, the electronic "matchakoni", the cell phone that strains our nerves, the pressure of the bosses, the inadequacy of the wages, if illnesses also come then I pity you, poor thing. You must steel your soul and fight vigorously. In order to get out of the crisis and the quagmire and not sink into chaos, you must acquire morale and weigh all of this. In such situations, sleep is the medicine for the soul. Every now and then a spree with good company, with a rich meal, moderate drinking, never the driver, with songs and dancing is good for the soul. For young people, Love, a permanent companion, should be at their side and the rest in their bedroom. Good weekend (15/5/25)
