Why Is Biden Blaming Russia? We “can’t do much right now” About Soaring Gas Prices...But What About American Production?
Mar 10, 2022
The United States is facing historically high gasoline prices. Before Putin’s war with Ukraine, Americans were paying more at the pump as gas prices rose under Biden. Yet Biden refuses to take responsibility. According to Biden, this is “Putin’s Price Hike,” and Putin is the reason for the skyrocketing prices. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) blasted Biden and Democrats’ “twisted thinking” on U.S. energy policy that has caused gasoline prices to skyrocket to all-time highs in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average exceeds $4.25 a gallon on Wednesday. A year ago, the average was $2.79; a month ago, the average was about $3.47, based on AAA data.
During a press conference on Wednesday, McCarthy said “the main reason Americans are paying so much is bad domestic policies,” while acknowledging that oil is an international market.
“These aren’t Putin prices,” he said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who launched an invasion of Ukraine nearly two weeks ago. “They’re President Biden’s prices.”
