 Dear friends, | It was like watching something out of an apocalyptic movie.
Lifeless bodies sprawled in the mud, hands tied behind their back. Others burned and buried into backyards… or thrown into wells.
The atrocities in Bucha caused a global outrage. But, instead of bringing the soldiers to justice, Putin awarded MEDALS to those accused!
We must help end this impunity and hold Putin’s killers to account.
Avaaz has 900,000 members in Ukraine – and every single one of them could hold the evidence needed to bring war criminals to justice. So we’ve teamed up with investigators and legal experts, to design a MASSIVE people-powered push to help the International Criminal Court and other tribunals gather the evidence needed to prosecute.
Ukraine says it’s identified more than 10,000 war crimes – investigating these atrocities could be truly transformational, but it’s onerous and expensive work that needs urgent funding.

| | | | | | For open-source evidence to be admissible in court, it needs to be carefully sifted and processed by legally trained investigators who painstakingly cross-reference the details to verify it and prepare it for submission to prosecutors. We’ve already funded a similar model in Yemen, and the evidence collected has been submitted to UK authorities in a fight to secure justice for tens of victims. Now we could do it on an even bigger scale in Ukraine – but only if the project is funded. If enough of us chip in we could help: - Roll out a massive open source effort to gather evidence of war crimes in Ukraine;
- Hire legal assistants and investigators able to verify the evidence and prepare it for submission to the courts;
- Connect our 900,000 members in Ukraine who may have evidence of war crimes directly with war crimes prosecutors at the International Criminal Court;
- Supercharge our massive campaign to help hold Putin accountable, and work to end this senseless war;
- Stand against tyranny everywhere with new campaigns to defend democracy, human rights and the dignity of civilians caught in conflicts.
