With modern finishes that dry so fast it`s possible to save hundreds doing it youself. Automotive paint products are still quite expensive. But if you copy the techniques of the pros you get good results. 

Rule #1; Get the paint gun working right before you start painting! Do it in the summer.

1st photo shows rear finished, front unfinished. 2nd and 3rd photos; completed. I restored twins; 2wheel and a 4wheel drive GMC pickups. It took 5 junk trucks to make 2 good one`s. 4th photo; Lot`s of patience, masking, primer, lot`s of sanding.
