I`ve known enough people who actually committed suicide to notice a characteristic they all had in common. In all the cases they had a subterranean personality stubborness which kept them from adapting to changing conditions in their lives. Depression was a minor part. Also drugs or alcohol. But that "change" against their personality would set off the suicide. Money had nothing to do with it!
My aunt was rich and prosperous and she drove her Mercedes in the garage, put the door down, sat in the car and left the motor running.
Clark Taylor was taking drugs wrecking his career in trucking but it was changing conditions for worse that pushed him over the edge with overdose. My own mother changing relationships with the family finally did it with her. Mother-in-law also, the same.
That guy working for Barrick that shotgunned his girlfriend here in town; She tormented him so much and he stubbornly hung on when he should have just walked away from her. Both are dead.

In all the ones that I knew that offed themselves, some particular manifestation of fear was the triggering factor.

No FEAR just that stubborness. Using a shotgun on his girlfriend was rage not fear. Then shooting himself was hopelessness. My mother, and mother-in-law shooting themselves in the head - again hopelessness.

You like to argue - you always do, so hold a 9mm pistol to your head realizing you would be dead in an instant if you pulled the trigger. you would feel fear but to actually pull the trigger requires overwhelming hopelessness. Same with the guillotine blade. To actually release the blade while your neck is in the lunette again requires not fear but the desire - the reason to commit suicide.
