President Lula of Brazil has only a few days to stop an all-out corporate assault on the Amazon. He's under pressure from big business to sign the 'devastation bill' Congress just passed – and if he does, we could be saying goodbye to chunks of the Amazon twice as big as Portugal! But Lula wants the world to see him as a climate champion, and he’s vetoed bad bills before.  He needs to feel the pressure from us RIGHT NOW to push him to defy big business and do the right thing one more time.

Brazil's Congress just passed the most destructive anti-environmental bill in Brazilian history.

3,000 territories – including more than one third of all Indigenous lands – are losing the legal protections that have fended off full-scale exploitation for decades.

It's open season on the Amazon, and the Minister of the Environment herself said it’s a 'death blow' to Brazil’s climate ambitions.


But President Lula can veto this 'devastation bill'. He is working to make Brazil a global leader, which means his international image matters – he will listen to our voices.

He only has a few days to act.

If he won't use his power, we lose one of the last remaining restraints on the full-scale destruction of the Amazon. Lula once committed to being a climate champion. A global outcry now can give him the backing he needs to stand up to Congress – and finally, truly become that champion.

Experts say this 'devastation bill' rolls back decades of environmental protections, leaving the mining, logging, and agriculture industries with little or no oversight or accountability. We know for sure that about 18 million hectares of forest is immediately vulnerable – and that's just from infrastructure projects that have already been approved.

That's nearly twice the size of Portugal! And the full scope of the devastation will likely be much, much worse.

Lula has the power to stop this. But Congress is pushing hard for environmental destruction, and he’ll only act if the public demands it. Brazil's environment — and the planet — are at stake.
