AHC Welcomes State Department Reaffirmation That Türkiye Remains Ineligible for F-35s

The AHC welcomed the U.S. Department of State’s December 15 response to Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.), Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues, reaffirming that Türkiye remains ineligible to rejoin the F-35 program due to its continued possession of the Russian S-400 air defense system, as mandated by U.S. law.

The State Department confirmed that U.S. policy has not changed and that F-35 eligibility remains governed by CAATSA and the FY2020 National Defense Authorization Act.

While supporting pressure for the removal of the S-400 system, we urge the administration to maintain CAATSA sanctions regardless, underscoring that such a purchase must carry lasting consequences.

Defense Min Dendias on Samos visit: Greece absolutely determined to defend its sovereign rights

Greece is "absolutely determined to defending its sovereignty and sovereign rights," and this is the constitutional obligation of the Armed Forces and of every Greek, National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said on Dec 26 during a visit of military facilities on Samos island on the occasion of the holiday season.

Dendias paid a visit to the headquarters of the national guard at and an observation post at Psili Ammos accompanied by the chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff and the chief of the Hellenic Army.

The minister clarified that Greece threatens nobody. "Greece has not expressed a revisionist mentality, has not formulated a threat for any of our neighbors. It has not registered any territorial or other demand against another country, and has not furthermore issued a threat of war against anyone," he said.

Eastern Mediterranean Alignment Sends Clear Regional Message

Greece, Cyprus and Israel reinforced their trilateral partnership during a high-level meeting in Jerusalem, highlighting closer cooperation on security, energy and regional stability amid ongoing tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a rules-based order, respect for sovereignty and maritime rights, and deeper defense coordination among the three democracies.

The meeting carried a broader geopolitical signal, with firm statements rejecting regional dominance or “imperial” ambitions.

These remarks prompted a sharp reaction from Turkey, which accused Israel of destabilizing behavior and viewed the trilateral alignment as aimed at constraining Ankara’s influence in the region.

Greece, Cyprus and Israel stressed that their cooperation is focused on stability rather than confrontation.
