France in the 1700`s similar to today`s America;  Decades of mismanagement led up to the reign of King Louis the 16th and Queen Marie Antoinette.  Like Hillary and the Feminists today, they had Madame Pompadour back then.  The TAXES were vicious on the middle and lower classes. Only those close to the king were granted great privileges - exemptions [i.e.; Obama Care!]. 
Reminds us of today where the Bureaucrats and Oligarch-insider privileged are getting richer while the young and the poor are getting poorer.
We can add Victor Hugo`s famous quotes about that era also.

Likely, King Louis the 16th and Queen Marie Antoinette really didn`t know what hit them when the Revolution turned ugly and very deadly under the Jacobins in 1792. Massive subterranean forces of furious anger were welling up in the populations. Robespierre and Marat tapped into that. Ironically, it was King Louis himself who recommended the angled blade on the guillotine. Little did he know that in a few years he and his wife both would be executed victims of it. And they actually had committed no crimes against the Nation - unlike our current demonic politicians!
 
10,000 alone went to the guillotines. Est.;400,000 died in the "Reign of Terror" Robespierre and Marat; The deep pits on Robespierre`s face were due to small pox in childhood.
