RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SOCIETY OF KNOWLEDGE

On behalf
of the Hellenic Retired Generals for Peace & Disarmament I convey my warmest salute and solidarity to the 2002 World Conference against the A and
H Bombs in Hiroshima. Until we abolish
nuclear weapons , we have to criticize
ourselves for what we failed to
do to abolish them.
The world has changed for the
worst in the past year :
- The US made a policy on the actual use of nuclear
weapons.
- The US is planning to make mini-nukes
and is resuming underground test
explosions in violation of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
- With the pretence of fighting terrorism,
US made an offensive in Central Asia.
- The US has labeled certain
countries as the “axis of devil *“ and
is ready to bomb them even with nuclear weapons.
-
India and Pakistan are in conflict, brandishing their nuclear weapons.
-
Israel- the 3 rd nuclear power- is continuing for 35 years the occupation and
genocide of Palestinians.
-
Turkey continues the occupation of Northern Cyprus
- etc.
These actions are the exact
opposite of what is required in order to eradicate terrorism and to build a
peaceful world order. Who has the
greatest responsibility for all those
crises ? The inefficient governments ? The inactive Peace Organizations ?
Finally, I concluded that the Society o Knowledge ( researchers,
scientists , intellectuals, educated
people, e c t ) shares a great responsibility in that it could not
mobilize the people
According to the ancient
philosopher Plato : “ in prehistoric times(before 1500 years B. C) there lived in Atlantis the nation ‘Atlantes’. They had developed a brilliant civilization
with great buildings , huge irrigating works, a thriving science and a
strong navy. Finally, they became
arrogant and attacked the Atheneans in the East Mediterranean. When Zeus saw their arrogance, he convened the Gods’ council to decide for their punishment.” The script
of the Gods’ decision has been lost , but the imposed punishment is
evident from the sinking of Atlantis.
This event was also confirmed by the Egyptian priests when the law maker Solon (6
t h century b. C) visited Egypt. (book Plato , Timaios)
More than 3.500 years
later, another strong and
arrogant Atlantic nation, the USA, is repeating
the same “hybris”(heavy insult against humanity and Gods) by their recent policy “to strike with
nuclear weapons any opponent that is judged dangerous to American
security” .
The USA, as the
ancient Atlantes in the
past, is contrary to the Hellenic
Spirit and all ancient spiritual
cultures. Also, the US-Israeli axis is
striking with excessive ferocity the
Arabic and Islamic nations ,
that are contrary to the Israeli’s
domination in Palestine. It is evident that the Jewish controlled “Pax Americana” is seeking
the world domination .
Therefore, the Nuclear Weapons , as well as other international problems of our times,
are not the cause of the recent global misfortune , but the casual result
of a certain way of thinking. Consequently,
the modern technology is not the source
of our
problems , but rather the misuse of it . Our times are one of rapid
changes and extreme confusion and the decline of morals. The new generations are lucky in that they
have not lived the misery and crimes(
Nazist atrocities, famine , executions , holocausts , etc) of W. W II, or the massive allied bombing of
cities (with the extremist crime of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and
Nagashaki). They are simultaneously unlucky, because they don't
have enough life experience as
those of previous periods (e. g the agricultural and industrial) and they
have not tasted the great ‘Necessity’, that
armed the previous
generations with wisdom, virtue,
prudence, braveness, dignity,
respect of Gods (Natural Law) and
metron (the moderate path). It is evident that the
wars accelerated the
great changes, but at the same
time these wars increased the arrogance, greediness, cruelty and fear characteristic of the new generations .
So, the young generations have gradually
forgotten the importance of virtue and
spirituality, while falling through
a mad technological development into the depths of greediness, materialism, overconsumption,
contempt of the spirit and humanism, and
refusal of the permanent values of life. Within this gloomy environment the human being is looking
for a better vision .
Once again the individual, as
well as the collective conscience of
our society, are standing before
the same Ancient Atlantic arrogance and hybris that constituted the ancient Hellenic tragedy. Now it
demands purification of arrogant
leaders, unwise plutocrats and the naïve people and their subjugation to the Universal
Natural Law in order that justice, balance
and metron will be re-established on Earth . It will only
be done with the change of the present Establishment by a new Democratic Society of Knowledge , in
which all citizens will
obey the law (Nomocratia). Therefore , it is necessary to take paradigms from the ancient spiritual civilizations and their archetypes . First, we should answer
the following questions:
1/ What is the human being ? Is it a God , a semi-God,
or a sapiens species in the universe ?
2/ Can we live forever
with nuclear weapons ?
2/ What should the New
Humankind of the 21 century be?
With my understanding of
the three periods (the
agricultural, industrial and informative)
I have concluded that : “We are at the threshold of the Society of Knowledge.
So, we must not act separately , but in close contacts with each other,
together with all peoples that are struggling for a new society . As long as great injustice exists on Earth , there
will not be place for Peace, and
this breeds terrorism. Therefore, we must struggle against the criminal
wars, the nuclear weapons and
Stars War, against the injustice of the New World Order toward the
Third World countries, against the
ineffectiveness of the U. N , and, give an end to the continuing tragedy of Palestinians Kurds etc”.
For this reason, it is
necessary to activate all the potential
of the educated community. So far the Society
of Knowledge has created sophisticated
technologies and methods, capable
to enter deeply into the secrets of the Nature , in a space “prohibited”
to the unwise men, but accessible to the Gods
and semi-Gods(the experts) . The present scientific community has
the ‘key” to unlock the Universal Natural Law, but it is very dangerous while
other uneducated, dogmatic and fanatics leaders
and nations are leading humankind into chaos, wars and
insanity
At the present time we are at the most dramatic moment .
We must formulate a broad Global Movement, based on the logic for survival and the continuation of progress . We have to ‘globalize’ Knowledge, Unity, Cooperation, Humanism, Justice, Productive Means, , Democracy, Tolerance,
Human Rights and Peace
and not refrain ourselves to the globalization of
market, injustice, terrorism and wars.
If we enter with the present way of thinking (arrogance, materialism,
fanatism, greediness, wars, the rotten
capitalism and outmoded imperialism,
etc) we will burn our feathers, as it occured with Phaethon,
the mythological being who was struck by lightening by the Zeus,
as he approached the Sun's fire.
Although we feel like supermen, in
reality we are very
weak, since we are subjected to eternal changes . So, our society is
very fragile. Opposed to these gigantic universal forces , as the martyrs
of Hibacusha who came face to face with
the Nuclear Forces know better, we are unable to do anything other
than eliminate the Nuclear Weapons.
From my studies of the ancient Hellenic civilization, I
concluded that : It is necessary to
re-discover the lost values and humanism from the
ancient spiritual archetypes, in order to build
the New global Society of the 21 s t century . The New Society must have not only new productive machineries, methods and
constitutions, but above all a
new way of thinking and Virtue.
Knowledge without character
and science without humanity leads to violence, to paraphrase Mahatma
Gandhi. State violence, rather than terrorists, will lead our world into
unthinkable agony and soon after, into extinction unless we soon match our
knowledge and power with responsibility.
We must
seek the Apollonian spiritual light(Knowledge), the Dionysian purified
soul( virtue and humanism) and Zeus ' superior spirit ( respect to
the Natural Law). We have to be purified from the arrogance, the conception of wars and other backward prejudices of the
past. If we follow the right course it is certain that the senior supervisor of the Universal Law will bring back
the lost Balance, Harmony, Unity
, Cooperation and Peace on Earth .
Finally, Love (Eros) must prevail on
Earth . The love (Eros)
of God towards human beings and vice versa and
amongst the human beings themselves. We have to stop the present sliding path,
because it leads directly
to Disaster .
I am optimistic and will
struggle for the establishing of the Society of Knowledge.
