In our combined 170 trips around the sun, we’d never read/heard a plausible explanation for the involvement of bunnies & chicken eggs in celebration of “Easter”.
Since ‘ol JC supposedly rose from the dead in the springtime, it seems likely that those who chose to celebrate the event would use the already existing Pagan ‘oliday of Eostre:
