THE PEACE PLAN

 THE PEACE PLAN

                                                                                                                                                Written by Konstantinos Konstantinidis Amphiktyon

We welcome President Trump's peace plan for Palestine, which if successful may rightfully win the Nobel Peace Prize. It seems utopian, but sometimes utopias come true! A merciless war that has been going on since 1946 with various phases and belligerents will come to an end, but it is always for the fate of Palestine. This ancient and miserable nation with Greek roots (from Achaea) has been at the center of conflicts since the British left Palestine and handed it over to the newly established state of Israel. Since then, the Palestinians have become "scapegoats" in their own land. The region experienced several wars, all of which were ultimately won by Israel, always with diplomatic and military support from the US. Israel eventually gradually expanded its borders from a small initial state to Lebanon, Syria (Golan Heights and Sinai). The Palestinians without a recognized state found themselves squeezed and isolated from each other in the East Bank enclave and the narrow Gaza Strip, while a large part emigrated. . After the assassination of their historic leader Yasser Arafat by poison, the Palestinian leadership from the Fatah organization fell into the clutches of the extremist and terrorist organization Hamas. Since then, hostilities and terrorist acts have been continuous, with maximum damage to Palestinian civilians and, of course, to a lesser extent, to Israelis. Therefore, a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue would be very beneficial and beneficial for both peoples and especially for the Palestinians.

The main axes: Donald Trump's new proposal for Gaza, which was put on the table during his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, presents significant differences from the original 21-point plan. According to information, the plan includes provisions regarding the immediate cessation of the war, the return of hostages, the provision of humanitarian aid and the reconstruction of the Strip. Key points of the plan

: • Cessation of hostilities: Gaza will be transformed into a zone free from extremism and terrorism, while the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will withdraw to an agreed line. During this period, military operations will be frozen.

• Hostage release: Within 72 hours of acceptance of the agreement, all hostages – alive and dead – will be returned. In exchange, Israel will release 1,950 Palestinian prisoners, including women and children.

• Hamas engagement: Its members will be excluded and will receive amnesty, while those who wish will be able to leave safely to third countries.

 • Humanitarian aid: Full access for humanitarian cargo will be allowed, with the aim of restoring critical infrastructure, reopening hospitals and distributing food. The UN and international organizations will take over the coordination.

• Gaza administration: A temporary transitional authority is envisaged with Palestinian technocrats and international experts, under the supervision of the new Peace Council, chaired by Donald Trump and including personalities such as former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair.

 • Reconstruction and development: The Trump plan includes a special trade zone with preferential tariffs, investments in infrastructure and the creation of new jobs.

They may sound good in words but in practice they are very difficult to implement for the following reasons:

a/ Disarmament of Hamas History has proven that it is difficult to secure a terrorist organization, but even if it is done, dormant nuclei will remain and will even manifest themselves in internal conflict with the legitimate government

b/ The fanatical parties of Israel. In the Netanyahu government coalition, is it difficult to accept the creation of a Palestinian state? c/ How will the foreign powers that have so far secretly supported the two belligerents and reaped profits and geostrategic influence secretly accept the Trump plan? (Qatar, Turkey, Iran, and even Russia and China from afar)? The first reactions from Hamas are positive, albeit with reservations. On the contrary, Israel is still continuing the bombing of Gaza with civilian casualties. The arrest and mistreatment of the activists who attempted to approach Gaza by boat is also a bad omen. In such a polarized and hostile climate with abysmal hatred and passions, it is truly a miracle if peace finally prevails. However, all of humanity supports the Trump peace plan and we hope it succeeds because it will pave the way for the resolution of perhaps other problems (Ukrainian, Cyprus, Kurdish) and will free up the supply routes from India and the pipelines from the Middle East to Europe (5/10/25)
