SIGN NOW: BREAK UP BIG TECH
Google is killing journalism for profit. The tech giant rigged the rules of the ad market and got a multi-billion-dollar fine for it. Now, the EU could order its break-up, but it needs to hear from all of us to resist the intense lobbying. Add your name now for a fairer internet:
SIGN NOW: BREAK UP BIG TECH
Dear friends,
Each time you read the news online, Google takes a cut through the ads on the websites. But this was not enough for the tech giant: it monopolised the digital ad market in a way that sucked the lifeblood out of independent journalism.

Less money means fewer reporters uncovering the truth. It means more disinformation. It isn’t just the media that suffers — our democracies do, too.

But for the first time, we have a real chance: the EU just fined Google billions and could order a break-up of the company. This is a rare, historic opportunity to crack Big Tech’s stranglehold, but EU leaders will only act if they have global support. We have only a few weeks to be heard — tell the European Commission now:
Google’s been caught cheating the ad market, but the real fight is bigger. To avoid regulation, Trump threatens tariffs, and Silicon Valley lobbies hard, all for billionaires to keep their grip on our online world.

Ordering a break-up can be the first step to show Google, Meta & Co. they are not above the law.

This might become a global wave: a US court recently ruled that Google is a monopoly, while Canada, the UK and Australia have similar legal cases against the company. So let’s tell Europe to spearhead the uprising:
The Avaaz community has been at the forefront of fighting for a better online environment. We have funded research on how disinformation spreads and affects crucial moments such as elections, civil conflicts and the pandemic. Together with partners, Avaaz has ensured social media regulation that protects human rights in the European Union. Let’s fight again for an internet we all can thrive in.

With hope and determination,

Nádia, Antonia, Nate, Joana, Liliana and the entire Avaaz team
