Greek Direct Democracy Movement  sends an open Letter to the UK citizens about the June 2016 Referendum

Dear British voters,

UK joined the European Community in 1973 and it is worth to mention that the people have not been asked prior signing the membership agreement. Only two years later, in 1975 you decided in a referendum if you want to stay in the European Community, which was approved by 66 percent of the voters.

The basic idea, as it was explained to the people in Europe, was a community of European nations in friendship, solidarity, mutual benefit and democracy, the basic European values.

Unfortunately, these inviting promises proofed to be wrong. There is nothing about freedom, solidarity or friendship in the European Union. The European Union has proven to act on behalf of the interest of banks and multi-national enterprises, as advised by professional think-tanks and lobbyists, not in favor of its people. In fact, the European Union is an economic union with a common market (without internal borders) which enables a free circulation of money, goods and people/workforce, and an ongoing process to harmonize business standards. The European Union is designed as a cartel and typically, there is a lack of democratic structures and processes: democracy becomes a disturbing factor.

Democracy, and especially direct democracy, is against any fiber of the European Union.

The peoples vote got lost in the bureaucracy of the European Union. The European Union is driven by technocrats and an agenda which will lead to the United States of Europe shortly, .the loss of the national sovereignty and identity of the European countries. The national parliaments have already delegated to a large extend their responsibilities and sovereignty to the European Institutions and consequently the national voting becomes more and more irrelevant.

The European Parliament, the only institution in the European Union the people voted for, has a more or less decorative function, it cannot legislate as we know it from national parliaments. The European Commission, which is in fact the European government, is not elected, it consists of delegates from the national governments. As Horst Seehofer, Prime Minister of Bavaria, put it: Those who are elected do not decide and those who decide are not elected.

European Union has a track history ignoring the vote of the people, referenda are only welcome if they approve the official policy of the European Union. If the people didn’t vote as requested, the governments used to arrange an information campaign and repeat the referendum until the outcome is convenient.

Denmark voted in the referendum in June 1992 against the Maastricht treaty, the re-negotiated version was approved in a second referendum in May 1993.  

2001 Irish voters rejected the Treaty of Nice, in a second referendum 2002 it was approved.

France voted in May 2005 against the proposed European Constitution. Referenda would have also to be held in Czech, Denmark, Ireland, Poland, Portugal and the UK. As the risk of more refusals was too high, the European Union decided to modify the text and sign them as treaty by the national governments, this is what we have today as Treaty of Lisbon.

We, the Greek people, voted in July 2015 against further austerity measures required by the Troika, and our vote was ignored. Prior the referendum even highest officials of the European Union warned the Greek people to vote NO as this would lead to a Grexit, even this is not ruled in the European treaties.

In March 2016, the European Union signed a deal with Turkey on the migration crisis. Part of the deal is that the European Union takes over a quota of migrants and distributes them by a defined key within the European countries. Hungary has announced to hold a referendum on the enforced migration, this referendum was condemned as an undemocratic measure.

Some days ago, the Dutch people voted in a referendum against the EU-Ukraine agreement. EU officials mentioned in several interviews that obviously referenda are dangerous and a threat against the European Union. In the meantime, there are serious discussions to prohibit referenda within the European Union in general in order to avoid further conflicts.

Even in Switzerland, the country with the most enhanced practice of referenda, the politicians fear more than anything else the vote of the people, as it may destroy their plans in case the people do not vote as they recommend them.

The European Alliance stop-TTIP is an initiative of more than 500 organizations all over Europe and has collected more than 3.4 million signatures in order to stop TTIP and CETA. Those agreements are considered as a threat to democracy, the environment, consumers and labor standards. But the European Commission ignores them…

We, the Greek direct democracy movement, want to express our solidarity as we know that you have to take a historical decision for your country and for your people, as we did last summer.

On 23rd June 2016 you will have to decide in a referendum on the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union. A referendum is a direct democratic element, the highest expression of the peoples will, a privilege and a rare opportunity in the European Union.

You have now the historical chance to mark your national independence day and stop the further transformation of Europe into a European dictatorship.

Democracy is the key to freedom, peace and prosperity, it protects human rights and ensures respect and tolerance.

 

Our thoughts are with you, we send you best wishes from Greece for a democratic voting.

Αγαπητοί Βρετανοί ψηφοφόροι,

       Το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο προσχώρησε στην Ευρωπαϊκή Κοινότητα το 1973 και είναι άξιο αναφοράς ότι οι πολίτες του δεν ρωτήθηκαν πριν υπογράψει την συμφωνία προσχώρησης. Μόλις δύο χρόνια αργότερα, το 1975 αποφάσισαν με δημοψήφισμα, αν ήθελαν να μείνουν στην Ευρωπαϊκή Κοινότητα, η οποία εγκρίθηκε από το 66 τοις εκατό των ψηφοφόρων.

       Η βασική ιδέα, όπως εξηγήθηκε στους Ευρωπαίους πολίτες, ήταν μια κοινότητα των εθνών της Ευρώπης φιλίας , αλληλεγγύης, αμοιβαίου οφέλους και δημοκρατίας, τις βασικές ευρωπαϊκές αξίες.

       Δυστυχώς, αυτές οι υποσχέσεις πρόσκλησης αποδείχθηκαν λανθασμένες. Δεν υπάρχει τίποτα σχετικά με την ελευθερία, την αλληλεγγύη και τη φιλία στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση. Η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση έχει αποδειχθεί ότι ενεργεί για λογαριασμό των συμφερόντων των τραπεζών και των πολυεθνικών επιχειρήσεων, όπως συνιστάται από επαγγελματίες think-tanks και λομπίστες, όχι υπέρ του λαού της. Στην πραγματικότητα, η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση είναι μια οικονομική ένωση με μια κοινή αγορά (χωρίς εσωτερικά σύνορα), η οποία επιτρέπει την ελεύθερη κυκλοφορία του χρήματος, αγαθών και ανθρώπων / εργατικό δυναμικό, και μια συνεχής διαδικασία για την εναρμόνιση των επιχειρηματικών προτύπων. Η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση έχει σχεδιαστεί ως ένα καρτέλ και τυπικά, υπάρχει μια έλλειψη δημοκρατικών δομών και διαδικασιών: η δημοκρατία γίνεται ενοχλητικός παράγοντας.

      Η δημοκρατία, και κυρίως η άμεση δημοκρατία, είναι ενάντια σε κάθε ίνα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.

      Η ψηφοφορία των λαών χάθηκε στη γραφειοκρατία της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση οδηγείται από τεχνοκράτες και μια ατζέντα θα οδηγήσει προς τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες της Ευρώπης σύντομα, την απώλεια της εθνικής κυριαρχίας και της ταυτότητας των ευρωπαϊκών χωρών. Τα εθνικά κοινοβούλια έχουν ήδη αναθέσει σε μεγάλο βαθμό τις ευθύνες και την κυριαρχία τους στα ευρωπαϊκά θεσμικά όργανα και, κατά συνέπεια, η εθνική ψηφοφορία γίνεται όλο και λιγότερη σχετική.

     Το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο, το μόνο θεσμικό όργανο στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση για το οποίο οι πολίτες ψήφισαν υπέρ, έχει λίγο-πολύ διακοσμητική λειτουργία, δεν μπορεί να νομοθετεί όπως ξέρουμε από τα εθνικά κοινοβούλια. Η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, η οποία είναι στην πραγματικότητα η ευρωπαϊκή κυβέρνηση, δεν είναι εκλεγμένη, αποτελείται από εκπροσώπους των εθνικών κυβερνήσεων. Όπως ο Horst Seehofer, ο πρωθυπουργός της Βαυαρίας, το έθεσε: Αυτοί που εκλέγονται δεν αποφασίζουν και αυτοί που αποφασίζουν δεν εκλέγονται.

     Η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση έχει μια ιστορική διαδρομή στο να αγνοεί την ψήφο του λαού, τα δημοψηφίσματα είναι ευπρόσδεκτα μόνον εφόσον εγκρίνουν την επίσημη πολιτική της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Εάν οι άνθρωποι δεν ψήφιζαν όπως απαιτείτο , οι κυβερνήσεις συνήθιζαν να οργανώνουν μια εκστρατεία ενημέρωσης και επαναλάμβαναν το δημοψήφισμα μέχρι το αποτέλεσμα να είναι βολικό.

      Η Δανία ψήφισε στο δημοψήφισμα τον Ιούνιο του 1992 κατά της Συνθήκης του Μάαστριχτ, η νέα έκδοση του εγκρίθηκε σε δεύτερο δημοψήφισμα το Μάιο του 1993.

      Το 2001 οι  Ιρλανδοί ψηφοφόροι απέρριψαν τη Συνθήκη της Νίκαιας, σε ένα δεύτερο δημοψήφισμα το 2002 εγκρίθηκε.

      Η Γαλλία ψήφισε το Μάιο του 2005 κατά του προτεινόμενου Ευρωπαϊκού Συντάγματος. Δημοψήφισμα θα έπρεπε επίσης να πραγματοποιηθεί στην Τσεχία, τη Δανία, την Ιρλανδία, την Πολωνία, την Πορτογαλία και το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Καθώς ο κίνδυνος για μεγαλύτερες αρνήσεις ήταν πολύ υψηλός, η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση αποφάσισε να τροποποιήσει το κείμενο και να το υπογράψει ως συνθήκη από τις εθνικές κυβερνήσεις, αυτό έχουμε σήμερα ως Συνθήκη της Λισαβόνας.

      Εμείς, οι Έλληνες, ψηφίσαμε τον Ιούλιο του 2015 κατά της λήψης περαιτέρω μέτρων λιτότητας που απαιτούνται από την Τρόικα, και η ψήφος μας αγνοήθηκε. Πριν από το δημοψήφισμα, ακόμη και ανώτατοι αξιωματούχοι της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης προειδοποίησαν τον ελληνικό λαό να ψηφίσει ΟΧΙ, καθώς αυτό θα οδηγούσε σε Grexit, ακόμη και αν αυτό αποκλείεται από τις ευρωπαϊκές συνθήκες.

      Τον Μάρτιο του 2016, η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση υπέγραψε μια συμφωνία με την Τουρκία για την κρίση της μετανάστευσης. Μέρος της συμφωνίας είναι ότι η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση αναλαμβάνει την ποσόστωση των μεταναστών και τους διανέμει από ένα καθορισμένο μέτρο εντός των ευρωπαϊκών χωρών. Η Ουγγαρία έχει ανακοινώσει τη διενέργεια δημοψηφίσματος σχετικά με την αναγκαστική μετανάστευση, αλλά αυτό το δημοψήφισμα καταδικάστηκε ως αντιδημοκρατικό μέτρο.

      Πριν από μερικές ημέρες, οι Ολλανδοί ψήφισαν σε δημοψήφισμα κατά της συμφωνίας ΕΕ-Ουκρανίας. Αξιωματούχοι της ΕΕ που αναφέρονται σε διάφορες συνεντεύξεις τους, ότι προφανώς τα δημοψηφίσματα είναι επικίνδυνα και απειλή κατά της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Εν τω μεταξύ, υπάρχουν σοβαρές συζητήσεις για την απαγόρευση στα δημοψηφίσματα εντός της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης εν γένει, προκειμένου να αποφευχθούν περαιτέρω συγκρούσεις.

      Ακόμη και στην Ελβετία, χώρα με την πιο ενισχυμένη πρακτική των δημοψηφισμάτων, οι πολιτικοί φοβούνται περισσότερο από οτιδήποτε άλλο την ψήφο του λαού, καθώς μπορεί να καταστρέψει τα σχέδιά τους σε περίπτωση που οι άνθρωποι δεν ψηφίζουν όπως τους προτείνεται.

     Η Ευρωπαϊκή Συμμαχία stop-ΤΤΙΡ είναι μια πρωτοβουλία περισσοτέρων από 500 οργανώσεων σε όλη την Ευρώπη και έχει συγκεντρώσει περισσότερα από 3,4 εκατομμύρια υπογραφές για να σταματήσουν οι ΤΤΙΡ και CETA. Οι συμφωνίες αυτές θεωρούνται ως απειλή για τη δημοκρατία, το περιβάλλον, τους καταναλωτές και τους κανόνες εργασίας. Αλλά η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή τους αγνοεί ...

     Αγαπητοί φίλοι της δημοκρατίας στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο,

     Εμείς, το ελληνικό κίνημα άμεσης δημοκρατίας, θέλουμε να εκφράσουμε την αλληλεγγύη μας, γνωρίζοντας ότι θα πρέπει να λάβετε μια ιστορική απόφαση για τη χώρα σας και για τους ανθρώπους της, όπως κάναμε το περασμένο καλοκαίρι.

     Στη 23 Ιουνίου του 2016 θα πρέπει να αποφασίσετε σε δημοψήφισμα για την ένταξη την παραμονή στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου. Ένα δημοψήφισμα είναι ένα άμεσο δημοκρατικό στοιχείο, η υψηλότερη έκφραση των λαών, ένα προνόμιο και μια σπάνια ευκαιρία στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση.

    Έχετε τώρα την ιστορική ευκαιρία για να σηματοδοτήσετε την εθνική ημέρα της ανεξαρτησίας σας και να σταματήσει η περαιτέρω μετατροπή της Ευρώπης σε μια ευρωπαϊκή δικτατορία.

    Η δημοκρατία είναι το κλειδί για την ελευθερία, την ειρήνη και την ευημερία, προστατεύει τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα και εγγυάται τον σεβασμό και την ανεκτικότητα.

    Οι σκέψεις μας είναι μαζί σας, σας στέλνουμε τις θερμότερες ευχές από την Ελλάδα για μια δημοκρατική ψηφοφορία.

Τώρα αλλάζουμε την Ελλάδα και την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση ταυτόχρονα !
