The 2005 call from Palestine Civil Society for
boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel has gained
unprecedented momentum within the international community in recent years.
Since 2005, universities, academic groups, banks and faith based
organizations have all joined the BDS movement.
Lena Ibrahim and Andrew Kadi will provide personal testimony for why a grassroots BDS movement in solidarity with Palestinian Civil Society is a new means by which people can put pressure on the U.S., Israel, and the international community to achieve justice in Palestine. This comes in light of yet another failed state-sponsored peace process and escalation of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. This is the first installment of our Summer Intern Lecture Series, titled "Palestine Abroad: The Role of the International Community in the Palestinian Issue."  Lena Ibrahim
is a first generation Palestinian American undergraduate student studying
Global Affairs. She organizes with various Students for Justice in Palestine
groups in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia with the DMV SJP coalition.
Lena Ibrahim is a member of the US Campaign for the Academic and Cultural
Boycott of Israel, and the American Studies Association Activism and
Community Caucus which passed an Israeli academic boycott at the 2013
American Studies Association Conference. She has been a BDS community and
student organizer for three years and is actively organizing for social
justice and solidarity building. Andrew Kadi
is a human rights activist, Steering Committee member of the US Campaign to
End the Israeli Occupation, and occasional contributor to the Guardian's Comment is Free,
Electronic Intifada, Mondoweiss, Left Turn and other
publications.

501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Washington, DC that does
educational and humanitarian work on behalf of Palestinians, particularly
those living in the Occupied Territory and surrounding refugee camps.
The Palestine Center is an independent think-tank committed to
communicating reliable and timely information about the Palestinian political
experience to American policy-makers, journalists, students and the general
public. Established in 1991, it is the educational program of the Jerusalem
Fund for Education and Community Development.
