Mosul Residents Living in Sadness and Terror Under ISIS

2014-10-07 19:36 GMT
(AINA) -- Reporting via telephone, residents of Mosul describe a life of terror and sadness, living under strict Sharia law as imposed by ISIS. A general silence hangs over the city. ISIS continues carrying out random executions of young men and public figures. The most recent execution was of Ms. Ibtihal Hayali, the Deputy attorney general for the Nineveh Province, who was a candidate in the recent elections; she was executed without trial and her body was handed over to her relatives, who were ordered not to mourn her death or make funeral arrangements for her.
ISIS also executed four young men just before killing Ms. Hayali.
Mosul has experienced a sharp decline in commerce, despite the Al-Adha religious holiday, normally a time of great activity, where in the past the city's markets were teeming with people purchasing groceries. This decline of public activity is also seen in public squares, cafes and other public places.
